Oak Bay runners take first in men and women divisions

This past weekend April 1-2, the over 48s Comox United men鈥檚 team headed down to Victoria to play in the ever-so-popular Bill Drew Soccer Fest 2023.

The Tri-K Triathlon is back on Sunday, May 28. Participants from ages 4 to 104 can swim, bike, and run with distances depending on age, skill level, and event choice.

Courtenay resident Unya Hollmayer is the pride of GP Vanier Secondary school, after bringing home the gold medal at the U-19 2023 Canadian Wrestling Championships.

A fun and energetic gymnastics event was held at the Lewis Centre on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The Gymnastics Championships highlighted the amazing skills young athletes have been building throughout the year while attending gymnastics programs through Courtenay Recreation. The event, which was comprised of various age groups and levels, was watched by families and friends. All participants received ribbons and six students received awards.

The list of accolades and records continue to mount for Comox runner Roz Smith. After setting the Canadian marathon record in the female 70 鈥� 74 age group at the London Marathon in October of last year, she set a new Canadian half marathon record in the same age group at the Comox Valley RV Half Marathon March 19. Averaging a sub-five minute per kilometre pace, Smith blistered the course in a record of 1:44:31 鈥� beating the existing Canadian record by more than two minutes.

Comox Valley Kickers RFC (鈥淜ickers鈥�), a grassroots rugby club consisting of senior men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams, unveiled their new jerseys last month 鈥� their first in over five years.

Harriette Mackenzie of the Comox Valley earned tournament MVP honours Saturday when the VIU Mariners women鈥檚 basketball team capped a remarkable season with a win at the Canadian collegiate championships in Hamilton, Ont.

A total of 548 finishers crossed the final timing mat of the 2023 Comox Valley RV Half Marathon on Sunday, March 19.
