Courtenay’s Mark Isfeld boys continue hot start to volleyball season

The Ecole Mark R Isfeld Senior Boys volleyball team finished second out of 16 teams at the Spectrum Spikes and Aces Senior Boys Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 29-30 in Victoria.

The École Mark R Isfeld senior boys’ volleyball team finished second out of 16 teams at the Spectrum Spikes and Aces Senior Boys Volleyball Tournament, Sept. 29-30 in Victoria.

Isfeld Ice went undefeated in pool play, beating Wellington, 25-19, 25-11; Guilford Park, 25-17, 25-15; and Spectrum, 25-18, 25-12.

In bracket play, they continued their strong play and defeated St. Patrick’s (Vancouver) 25-14, 25-20, before falling to Victoria High School in a very close three-set match, 17-25, 25-17, 11-15 in the gold medal finals.

For the tournament, Carson East led the scoring with 12 aces, 14 kills and nine blocks.

Nick Linegar had five aces and 29 kills.

Andon Bayles had seven aces and 13 kills; Henry Holland finished with two aces, 11 kills and two blocks; Jayden Kuo three aces, six kills and two blocks; Parker Guille one ace, eight kills; Daxin Mouldenhauer two aces, two kills and two blocks and Sam Schum played in the gold medal match and had one kill.

Kiefer Stushnoff was called up from the junior team to fill in as the libero and did a great job. Torr Robertson was the team’s setter for the weekend and he had fice aces and seven kills.

This is the second silver medal for Isfeld Ice in just the first three tournaments of the season, playing in the gold medal match at Camousin College earlier this season. They also finished 11th at the very competitive UBC tournament.

Isfeld is now ranked seventh in the province and 1st on Vancouver Island in the AA Tier.

The senior boys started their league play on Oct. 4. Remaining home league games this season are Oct 11, 7 p.m. vs. Vanier and Carihi, and Nov. 1 7 p.m. vs Highland and Vanier (a Comox Valley Dual). The team encourages as many people to come watch as they’re preparing to host the Island Championships on Nov. 17-18 where they want our community to pack the stands!.Stay tuned for more information on our Island Championships.

Their next tournament is Oct 20-21 at Oak Bay High School in Victoria where they will look to continue their success as the top senior boys volleyball team on Vancouver Island.
