Dear editor, As a community with a military base, there is probably greater than average interest in the Comox Valley on the subject of aircraft to replace the aging CF-18s.

VICTORIA 鈥� The B.C. legislature is getting set for a spring session from the last week of April through May. Premier Christy Clark has kept her options open and held her cards close since winning the B.C. Liberal leadership in February. She is expected to announce shortly that she is running in a May byelection to fill the seat vacated by Gordon Campbell.

Cost of upgrades to rail line will be worth it in savings down the road.

Newsrooms are accustomed to fielding complaints (and even the occasional compliment). After we publish a news story or an opinion piece, it鈥檚 not uncommon to hear from both ends of the political/social spectrums that we are too biased toward the other side.

Dear editor, Questions have arisen on the campaign trail about the appointment of Bruce Carson as a senior adviser to the prime minister's office. The issue surfaced after a report by APTN alleged the former adviser to the prime minister had been lobbying the government to sell water filtration systems to First Nations. The accountability act forbids lobbying for five years by former political staff and Mr. Carson had left the prime minister's office in 2008.

Dear editor, Earth Hour was devised to bring attention to energy conservation. This in fact does make the public aware of energy waste but only lasts for one hour out of the year. If B.C. Hydro, provincial governments, and municipalities were really serious about conserving energy, I have some suggestions.

Dear editor, The 鈥淗anging Gardens鈥� mega condo project seems to be somewhat premature in its enthusiasm. Perhaps it needs to be 鈥渉ung out to dry鈥� and allowed to improve with age, say something like 20 years from now.

Dear editor, 鈥淚f the Comox Valley is the Recreational Capital of Canada, why do your citizens dump their garbage in outdoor recreation areas?鈥� Maybe because we have a few Neanderthals living here along with the dinosaur bones discovered in our valley.
