Could there be a provincial election in September?

VICTORIA — The B.C. legislature is getting set for a spring session from the last week of April through May. Premier Christy Clark has kept her options open and held her cards close since winning the B.C. Liberal leadership in February. She is expected to announce shortly that she is running in a May byelection to fill the seat vacated by Gordon Campbell.

EDITORIAL: Spending now will save later

Cost of upgrades to rail line will be worth it in savings down the road.

EDITORIAL: Maybe Regional Growth Strategy is right down the middle

Newsrooms are accustomed to fielding complaints (and even the occasional compliment). After we publish a news story or an opinion piece, it’s not uncommon to hear from both ends of the political/social spectrums that we are too biased toward the other side.

Multiple-choice questions for Tory candidate Duncan

Dear editor, Because the truth is more powerful than deception, I would like to help John Duncan with some questions he could use in his next “information” mailouts:

MP Duncan still has questions to answer

Dear editor, Questions have arisen on the campaign trail about the appointment of Bruce Carson as a senior adviser to the prime minister's office. The issue surfaced after a report by APTN alleged the former adviser to the prime minister had been lobbying the government to sell water filtration systems to First Nations. The accountability act forbids lobbying for five years by former political staff and Mr. Carson had left the prime minister's office in 2008.

Please douse lights year round, not just during Earth Hour

Dear editor, Earth Hour was devised to bring attention to energy conservation. This in fact does make the public aware of energy waste but only lasts for one hour out of the year. If B.C. Hydro, provincial governments, and municipalities were really serious about conserving energy, I have some suggestions.
Condo project should be hung out to dry

Condo project should be hung out to dry

Dear editor, The “Hanging Gardens” mega condo project seems to be somewhat premature in its enthusiasm. Perhaps it needs to be “hung out to dry” and allowed to improve with age, say something like 20 years from now.
'Neanderthals' creating unsightly mess by dumping their garbage

'Neanderthals' creating unsightly mess by dumping their garbage

Dear editor, “If the Comox Valley is the Recreational Capital of Canada, why do your citizens dump their garbage in outdoor recreation areas?” Maybe because we have a few Neanderthals living here along with the dinosaur bones discovered in our valley.

North Island Tory MP Duncan has been hard-working, decent

Dear editor, I believe that the voters of Vancouver Island North will recognize the importance of returning John Duncan as their Member of Parliament.

'There but for the grace of God go we' — homeless shelter supported

Dear editor, We congratulate Mayor Greg Phelps and Courtenay council on working with the Comox Valley Regional District to purchase the land on Cliffe Avenue to provide facilities for persons of no fixed address.
