Dear editor,
As a BC Hydro customer, I am absolutely appalled that BC Hydro is installing Smart Meters throughout all of BC this summer. I will not allow this dangerous technology into my home.
Serious problems with smart meters including increased fire and theft, higher monthly bills, and privacy issues, are being brought to light in locations where they are installed in the United States and Canada. Most frightening however, are the serious health risks resulting from the "smart" meter's constant wireless emissions that our bodies are subjected to, night and day. BC Hydro is ignoring all of these risks, and is violating our personal right to avoid this exposure.
The health dangers associated with this type of wireless technology are very well documented around the world, and have now been confirmed by the World Health Organization. Wireless technology is being installed at an alarming rate in our environment, and we come in contact with it everyday.
While we have little control over the environment outside our homes and what others do with this technology, we should have control over our personal space and our homes. It is a personal right to choose how much of this technology we subject ourselves to by reducing cellphone usage for example, or limiting wireless technologies in our homes.
That is, until now. BC Hydro is planning on blanketing our homes and our neighbourhoods with this harmful technology 24 hours a day, seven days a week, starting in July. BC Hydro has no right to impose such a harmful technology upon my home and family, against my wishes.
