Highland girls volleyball team strong at VIU tourney

Highland’s senior girls’ volleyball team demonstrated another level of improvement on the weekend at the VIU Mariners tournament. During round-robin and seeding for playoffs, Highland won and lost one match. The last match, for second place and seeding in the gold division on Saturday, was against Burnaby’s Moscrop Secondary. Highland was up 15-8 in the first set but could not maintain the lead. Moscrop tied it 22-22, and won 25-23.

The Comox Valley Kickers Women narrowly beat the Castaway Wanderers (“CW”) Saturday at Cumberland Village Park. This was the second time the teams met this season, but with a different result this time around. The Kickers won 29-26 with Dara DeMarce, Lauren Sargent, Lisa Korcsmaros, Jessica Nikkel and Daris Tendler Forberg each scoring a try. Christina Green-Speck added two converts.
