Over the past three years, a female development program run by the Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association (CVMHA) has grown from five to nearly 50 players.

The Ecole Mark Isfeld junior boys and girls volleyball teams travelled to RE Mountain community school in Langley Oct. 28-29 for the annual mixed junior Halloween tournament.

Two graduates of the Upper Island Riptide are part of the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) team that has advanced to the Canada West Women’s Soccer Final Four Championship. Camryn Curts is in her fifth year on the team and Sydney Sunderland is a sophomore. Both are midfielders and both grew up in Courtenay.

The Ecole Mark Isfeld junior boys volleyball team had a couple great weekends of play in October.

After losing a pair of games on the weekend, the Comox Valley Glacier Kings bounced back Wednesday with a 4-1 win over the Westshore Wolves in Victoria. The Yetis scored the first four goals of the game, two each in the first and second periods. Victoria scored early in the third.

Tamara Nolan of Comox won the women’s 82 kilogram division at the Amateur Strongman Canada National Championships, Oct. 22 in Thunder Bay, Ont.

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings lost a Friday shootout in Lake Cowichan, then lost by a goal Saturday at home against Oceanside.

A number of Comox Valley athletes braved the daunting Finlayson Arm race, September in Goldstream park near Victoria. The weekend begins with a 100k on Friday, followed by a 50k on Saturday and a 28k on Sunday. For truly brave souls there is also The Double — a cumulative time of the 100k and 28k. The trails are at times technical, but there is also a substantial amount of climbing involved.
