For the third time this summer, rain forced a cancellation of a night of racing for the IMCA Modifiedes Saturday at Saratoga Speedway. By so doing, the 2017 points championship was clinched. Oyster River’s Chris Beaulieu, whose 225 point lead over Travis Stevenson is untouchable, broke a tied with his uncle Martin Beaulieu for the most championships won at the Black Creek oval with seven.

Comox Valley Pickleball Association elects new board

The Comox Valley Pickleball Association held its Annual General Meeting Sept. 7. Members were told there will be more than 11,000 pickleball games played in the Comox Valley next May to September. All will be played on temporary surfaces. Rick Folk will be the new president, Rod Hamilton vice-president, Colleen Crowder treasurer and Jaye Mathieu secretary. Directors will be Judy Osborne, Jenny Kennedy, Carol Bissell and Del Christenson.
