Record Staff A silent auction this Saturday in the I-Hos Gallery parking lot will help Brenda Murray and Tara Hansen raise funds for the B.C. Cancer Foundation. Action items include an Andy Everson print, a Frank Everson carving, a Pamela Mitchell paining and a Mango's hammered silver bracelet. The three-hour event starting at 4 p.m. features Kenny Shaw as master of ceremonies and includes the original Porch's takeout for food from 1 to 7. Activities include a Name a Hero Balloon event, a special song by Barb Nowicki and T-shorts sold for $20. Murray and Hansen will raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation by walking 60 kilometres through Vancouver in two days in a Circle For Hope. You can donate online at www.endcancer.ca. The Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a two-day, 60-kilometre or one-day 32-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Vancouver. "It will be a challenge and I am ready to take on this endeavour to find a cure to breast and gynecologic cancers," Murray says. "My commitment is based on love and my realization that we each need to do our part in this fight. I can walk. I can raise funds to benefit the BC Cancer Foundation, a leader in the fight against all women's cancers. I can and choose to be a part of this movement to save lives. "I ask you to join my Circle For Hope. Be a part of my very personal journey — by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story with your circle of influence." This will be her third year walking. She and her daughter have made this journey together as our part in the fight to end cancer. This year they are walking for our friend Nonie. Nonie participated in our aerobic class starting three years ago. While in our class she was fighting colon cancer. Of 38 lymph nodes taken, 36 were cancerous. Nonie's diagnosis was one year to live. Nonie was only 43 years old. She had a beautiful family of two sons and a husband. Nonie's cancer moved to her liver and lastly her lungs. During this time Nonie, continued coming to aerobics with her intravenous in her arm. Sadly. Nonie passed away last spring. She made it four and a half years. "Nonie was such an inspiration to all of us who were blessed to have known her," Murray says. "Tara and I feel very honoured to be walking for her this year as she truly fought hard to beat his horrible disease. Nonie said: "This journey on earth is ending my other journey is just beginning. "Nonie wanted to come back as an eagle and I am sure she will be watching over all of us as we begin our journey on Aug. 13 and 14. I appreciate your support in helping me to succeed in reaching my goal to walk."
