The fourth annual Comox Valley Spirit Walk will be taking place on Monday, Sept. 30 as part of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The event is hosted by MIKI’SIW Métis Association and the Indigenous Women’s Sharing Society. It'll start at Simms Creek Park and go through downtown Courtenay.
The groups are encouraging people who want to participate to wear orange in remembrance of the Indigenous children and families who were affected by residential schools.
Opening ceremonies for the event will be at 11 a.m. at the Florence Filberg Centre, in the upper conference room and foyer. The centre is at 411 Anderton Avenue.
There is no pre-registration required, and participants can drop in any time from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. to register. Registrants will get a map of the route, which they can walk, learning along the way.
The walk will take approximately 30 minutes.
"In orange shirts and ribbon skirts, moccasins and a feather, we embrace the spirits of the ancestors, and we all walk together," the release about the event says.
