Re. the Nov. 5 article: Courtenay landlord challenged by maximum allowable rent increase.
The comment of Mayor Bob Wells struck me as the stereotypical, widely held but erroneous notion that all landlords are rich.
It is also a callous remark to the Courtenay landlord to stop complaining about his increased expenses.
The fact that the landlord “owns the asset” (more likely is paying for a large mortgage) does not change his financial situation as owning property in itself does not generate income.
Any possible profit when he actually sells the assets in future does not help him meet his expenses today.
