Dear editor,
On entering Comox I was appalled to see a sign with large letters “HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE TOWN OF COMOX/.” As a resident of Comox for 20 years who spent the previous 17 years working in a Middle East country where the word Christmas was banned in all forms of use, (when in Rome etc.), I felt ashamed and disgusted to read this sign. Whatever happened to “Merry Christmas?”
Have we lost the spirit and meaning of this time in our lives? I wonder if those responsible wake up on Christmas day and welcome their family, friends and neighbours with “happy holidays.”
I for one will not. Merry Christmas to all and “Bah humbug” to that sign.
