LETTER: What happened to Merry Christmas?

Dear editor,

On entering Comox I was appalled to see a sign with large letters 鈥淗APPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE TOWN OF COMOX/.鈥� As a resident of Comox for 20 years who spent the previous 17 years working in a Middle East country where the word Christmas was banned in all forms of use, (when in Rome etc.), I felt ashamed and disgusted to read this sign. Whatever happened to 鈥淢erry Christmas?鈥�

Have we lost the spirit and meaning of this time in our lives? I wonder if those responsible wake up on Christmas day and welcome their family, friends and neighbours with 鈥渉appy holidays.鈥�

I for one will not. Merry Christmas to all and 鈥淏ah humbug鈥� to that sign.
