LETTER - Unnecessary car noise can be regulated

Dear editor,
25274868_web1_210526-NIG-Letter-Prean-letter-to-editor_1

Dear editor,

It is interesting that transport trucks, that deliver our valued goods, aren’t allowed to use their engine brakes during the day, mostly on main roads (which could potentially be residential), but private vehicles (trucks, cars, motorcycles) can drive down even the smallest residential street, with the most loudest engines/exhausts, in the middle of the night, and that’s OK?

The city of Winnipeg has policies and guidelines about motor vehicle noise, and Manitoba has a law stating “No person shall start, drive, turn or stop a motor vehicle, or accelerate the motor of a motor vehicle while it is stationary, in such a manner as to cause any loud and unnecessary noise in, or from, the engine, exhaust system or braking system, or from the contact of tires with the roadway” in their highway traffic act.

If Manitoba can do it, why can’t we?

Sabine Schill,

Cumberland
