LETTER - COVID-19 is far from the only health crisis facing our government

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

Thank you to John and Jennifer Hedican, Phil Maund, and Karen Ryan for saying what had to be said about the government’s misguided priorities, in their recent letters to the paper.

Mental health is physical health. It is the government that separated the health care system into mind and body. And then, as Ms. Ryan says, they closed all the mental health institutions to leave those patients to heal themselves.

The numbers that Mr. Maund give are real. But it’s as if no one is dying from cancer, heart attacks, suicidal despair and overdoses any more because almost 7,000 Canadians have died from the coronavirus (74 per cent of whom are over 65).

I’d be all for the excessive amounts of time and expertise and money spent on a vaccine – if it would cure fear.

Judy Johnson, Comox
