LETTER - Blaney out of touch with hardships of airline industry

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

Re: Cancelled flight should mean full refund: Blaney (Page 33, June 10 Record)

Well Rachel, spoken like a true politician and someone who has never run a company on her own.

As a small buisness owner living with somene employed by Westjet, I can tell her all is not rosy in the Canadian airline industry. She speaks about the airlines’ responsibility to fully refund all monies owed for cancelled flights due to the pandemic. Well as someone who has witnessed the president of Westjet speak to his employees via webinar every week for the past 10 weeks I can tell you it has not been easy for them or my wife who continues flying across our great country in theirnewest fleet of Dreamliners with 11 flight attendants, two pilots and total passengers of usually less the 50. (Government regulations require a full crew on all flights).

“If the airlines need additional support , the federal government is the only body with the capacity and resources to provide that.” I guess when you don’t have to worry about where your next paycheck comes from you can make claims like that. I personally don’t trust any politican, especially the “Punch and Trudy Show” who seem to think like Rachel that they have unlimited resources. Don’t be surprised if we see a COVID tax in the new year. This is not the time to be grandstanding but we all must step back and realize how lucky we are to live in Canada and work together and support each other.

Rob (Norton) McBride,

Comox
