The provincial government is projecting that Vancouver Island will need 6,850 skilled carpenters and cabinetmakers by 2019. And North Island College (NIC) is in a position to help meet that demand with its brand-new Trades Training Centre at the Comox Valley campus.

Angry fishermen rallied Monday outside the Courtenay office of Vancouver Island North MP John Duncan, in response to the allowable catch for halibut recently announced by the department of Fisheries and Oceans. A Comox woman who lived with cancer for a year after the radiologist reading her mammogram said she was cancer-free is hoping the provincial investigation into CT scans will include mammograms as well. Florence Smith of Comox was misdiagnosed in 2004 after a mammogram at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox.
