First Nations communities across Canada are coming together today to celebrate their heritage and culture on National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21.

As this date approaches, the K’ómoks First Nation invites Valley residents to a two-fold celebration filled with music, dances, artistry, cultural exchange, and more.

The festivities will begin on K'ómoks land with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. at 3535 Bayside Rd. The morning celebrations will feature addresses by various Hereditary Chiefs and blessings by Elders.

From noon to 7 p.m., attendees will have the chance to partake in a wide variety of workshops and exhibitions and browse through the work of local First Nations artisans.

Meanwhile, another celebration will kick off at 2 p.m. at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds.

Dancing, singing, storytelling, artisans, and information tables will be part of the event, scheduled to end at 9 p.m.
