Jagmeet Singh says he will be stepping down as leader of the federal NDP.
During his concession speech on election night Monday (April 28), Singh said his time is over as party leader, a position he has served since 2017. He has been MP for Burnaby South from 2019 to 2025.
Singh was running in the Burnaby Central riding this election. He placed third with 18.5 per cent of the vote, with 110 of 200 polls counted as of 9:49 p.m. PDT.
He was the first Sikh person to lead a major federal party. Singh was also the first turban-wearing Sikh to sit as a provincial legislator in Ontario.
More to come.
