Come away with seven podium finishes

Liam Mackenzie of Comox and his teammates on Canada鈥檚 Under-17 men鈥檚 soccer team have qualified for the U17 World Cup later this year in Peru.

If you are up early some morning and feeling rather energetic, you might opt to head down to the rubberized track in Courtenay for some exercise. If you do, you won鈥檛 find many people about, but most likely you will see an elderly woman walking around the track.

The senior girls basketball team at Isfeld Secondary has qualified for the 3A provincial championships Mar 1-4 in Langley.

The host Isfeld Ice and St. Michaels University School (SMUS) of Victoria squared off in the final of the senior girls AAA Island basketball championship on the weekend. The host side gave it their all, but fell 79-36 to the top-ranked team in B.C.

A 72-year-old Courtenay powerlifter won three gold medals at the Canadian Powerlifting Championships Feb. 14 in Richmond.

The Comox Valley U16 boys Wave by Strikers competed in their first Super Series of the season in the Fraser Valley Feb. 17 and 18. A total of 28 teams attended.

The Comox Valley Curling Centre hosted the Pacific Coast Masters Curling Association鈥檚 Vancouver Island Zone 4 Playdowns Feb. 10-12.

Black Creek鈥檚 two-time Olympian, Canadian marathon record holder, and lifetime Comox Valley Road Runners (CVRR) member Cam Levins joined other club members for standout performances at the First Half Marathon Feb. 12 in Vancouver.
