The GP Vanier Towhees senior boys basketball team defeated Port Alberni 111-53 in its home opener, Tuesday at the Vanier gym.

Curling has certainly evolved over the past 60 years, but one thing that remains the same here in the Comox Valley is the enthusiasm of players, as evidenced in the 鈥淒iamonds are Forever鈥� Women鈥檚 Bonspiel Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 at the Comox Valley Curling Club.

Hockey players on the far side of 55 played in the annual Red versus Yellow tournament at the Comox Valley Sports Centre. The action kicked off Friday.

Ice wins Wildcat tournament

The GP Vanier Towhees senior boys basketball squad started the new season in their annual trek to the 4A Chilliwack Tournament on the weekend. There were four ranked teams, and other quick, talented teams that made for a great test for the young Towhees side. Starting all Grade 11s, it took two games for them to gel, and learn how to start playing this game.

Riley Wiwchar has been roaming around the country the past 11 years, organizing major events for Hockey Canada. His latest job is director of the 2019 IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) World Junior Championship, which starts Dec. 26 in Vancouver and Victoria.

Mia Barber a second team all-star

On Sunday, the Comox Valley United Soccer Club U15 select girls Wildfire played the U15s from Powell River at the Vanier turf. it was an important game because the visitors were slightly ahead of the Wildfire for first place, and it was also a Cup qualifier.

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings won back-to-back games last week 鈥� the junior B hockey team鈥檚 second and third wins of a rebuilding season.

The VIPL Riptide U18 and U15 girls soccer teams faced American and Canadian sides from around the Pacific Northwest Nov. 25-27 at the Starfire Sports Complex in Seattle.
