The Mark R Isfeld Ice Senior Boys AAA basketball team, coached by Blake Tobacca, Denis Beausoleil and Steve Lan wrapped up an incredible season with a hard-fought run to the Island Finals at the historic Victoria High.

After an impressive tournament with victories over Reynolds and Edward Milne the Ice finished runners-up to Nanaimo’s Wellington Secondary in a close, high-energy match up that ended 70-83.

Throughout the tournament, the team delivered standout performances. Grade 11 Nate Boan’s sharp shooting kept the Ice in contention, while Parker Guile’s fearless drives to the hoop led to spectacular layups that energized the crowd.

The team’s senior players — Bryson Gailloux-Milina, Jayden Kuo, Owen Stewart, Jacob Borden-Sayah, Noah Mallis and Ethan Moss brought their experience and leadership to the court, playing with grit and determination to push their team to success. They were well supported by Grade 11 players Lucas Fisher, Carter Ratliff and Shervin Singh.

Team captains Daxin Moldenhauer and Torr Robertson were both named to the tournaments first and second all-star team respectively with Moldenhauer earning the prestigious title of Best Defensive Player of the Tournament for his relentless work on the defensive end.

With the Island Finals behind them, the Ice now set their sights on the Provincial Championships at Langley Event Centre March 4-8, where they aim to build on last year’s impressive eight-place finish in B.C.

The team’s hard work, resilience, and camaraderie have defined their season and they head to provincials ready to leave it all on the court.
