Dear Editor,

The almost doubled cost of $11.2 million (not including interest of the loans which will yearly cost hundreds of thousands of dollars) for the proposed 6th St. pedestrian/bike bridge should be decided by Courtenay voters as provided by city bylaw.

There seems to be much dissent to be using our money this way.

In past years, much funds and consultation has also gone into a decision to put a third bridge over the Courtenay River at 8th St.

According to council, they have expectations that Central Builders will eventually relocate so the area can be redeveloped. Having three bridges within four streets seems like overkill with no guarantee of any of these future scenarios happening.

K. Laughlin,

Courtenay
