Sadly, mayor and council have approved the 6th Street trendy and new-speak named “Active Transportation Bridge” despite cost ESTIMATES jumping up to only $11.2 million from previous estimates of $6.9 million, an ESTIMATED increase of only 62 per cent.  But don’t worry, maybe some grants will pay for it, or maybe your children will.

Gosh mayor and council, how much is too much?

And since these costs are only “estimates” and given the track record of governments (including this one) managing major contracts to be completed on time and on budget, I suspect the final bill just might be more than taxpayers are being told/sold by elected officials.

Unfortunately, I was unable to access a voting record for or against those approving a 62 per cent debt funded increase.  So come the next election when Wells, Frisch, Hilian, Jolicoeur, McCollum, Morin and Cole-Hamilton ask for my vote and speak to me of their “record” I will certainly have something to consider. I apologize to any Council member I have named who may have voted to reconsider or oppose this prime example of politicians running amok with public money with apparent disdain for the taxpayer.
