Dear Editor,
My mother used to tell me, "Whenever you feel like there is darkness in your life, behind those dark clouds is brightness and sunshine. All you have to do is blow through them."
Donald Trump has brought a lot of darkness to Canada. He has broken our treaty with the U.S. (CUSMA), a treaty he signed. He put unjustified tariffs on our country and plans to add more. He has threatened numerous times to take over our Country making us his "51 State."
Trump never thanked us for our kindness to our southern neighbours when California had their massive fires. B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Quebec did not hesitate to volunteer our firefighters and equipment to put out the fires. This is what Canadians do for their neighbours.
Even though this darkness and hatred in Trump's mind is at work to harm our country, I see his actions have also brought brightness to our country. What is this brightness? Our great nation is not broken like Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party has repeatedly told us for well over a year. I am 72 years old and never have I seen Canadians come together so united as proud citizens of Canada. 90 per cent oppose Trump.
Secondly, trade barriers between our provinces are being removed which will lower prices by up to 15 per cent and add up to $200 billion to the domestic economy, according to Transport and Internal Trade Minister Anita Anand. All the Premiers are united to get this done. Prime Minister Carney has said he is hopeful to have all these trade barriers removed by July 1. After the great job Carney did guiding Canada during the 2008 financial crash in the U.S. while he was the Governor of the Bank Of Canada and also the same when he was Governor of the Bank of England during Brexit, I feel confident he will get the job done and deal with the bully Trump. ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ wasn't smart enough to do this.
Lastly, I see our country will become stronger and Canadians will continue to be filled with pride as our creativity and ingenuity makes us more independent as we diversify and trade with other nations more reliable than the U.S. We will make this work!
