The Baynes Sound Connector connecting Vancouver Island to Denman Island is currently holding in dock due to a hydraulic line issue.

A man died in a trailer fire Wednesday evening on Denman Island.

Wednesday night around 8:40 pm, the Comox Valley RCMP was notified of a person diving off the Fifth Street Bridge in Courtenay and did not resurface.

In response to a request from the Province of British Columbia, the Courtenay Fire Department has sent equipment and four firefighters to Williams Lake, B.C. in the province鈥檚 Central Interior. The crew from Courtenay departed on Wednesday morning with a pumper truck and a small pickup truck, and will assist in the fight against wildfires burning in the region.

They say lightning strikes twice.
