The Baynes Sound Connector connecting Vancouver Island to Denman Island is currently holding in dock due to a hydraulic line issue.
BC Ferries noted repairs are expected to take four hours, and a crew is en route to the MV Quinitsa to commence service.
The vessel is expected to depart Denman West at approximately 11 a.m. and will operate in shuttle mode until all traffic is clear.
A 12-person water taxi has been arranged for foot passengers and will sail between Fanny Bay and Denman West in shuttle mode, starting at approximately 9:45 a.m. Shuttle bus service will commence shortly and transport foot passengers between Buckley Bay and Fanny Bay.
The $15-million, 78.5 metre cable ferry began service late January 2016 with 鈥榮oft sailings鈥� and regular sailings in February. It is capable of carrying 50 vehicles and 150 passengers, and with a crossing of about 1,900 meters, it is believed to be the longest cable ferry in the world.
While the ferry has met the corporation鈥檚 expectations, some Island residents continue to raise concerns over its dependability.
