A 1979-themed party will kick off the ski season at Mount Washington this year.

You'd be forgiven for thinking you'd gone back in time this weekend at Mount Washington.

Skiiers and snowboarders popping in to Ted's Bar and Grill at the resort are going to do a double take at all of the retro decor, music and even food prices on Dec. 14. That's because the mountain is celebrating it's 45th anniversary with a 1979-themed party.

"The official mountain opening is this Saturday," said James Wood, an event organizer, musician and DJ for the event. "I'm sure you and a lot of your readers have know that they've had an unbelievable amount of snow already, and they've been open for the past couple of weekends.

The event is a 45-year celebration of Ted's Bar and Grill, which first opened its doors in 1979.

"We've decided to organize a 1979-themed party at Ted's from 3 p.m. until midnight," Wood said.

The party starts at 3 p.m. with Wood donning his DJ alter-ego DJ Jim Legacy.

"I'm going to be spinning my collection of 70s vinyl records from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m," he said. "When I'm spinning my records, anybody is free to go through my crate and pick out a song they'd love to hear. I'll work that into my set."

The next event will be at 7 p.m., when Bon Scott-era AC/DC tribute band TNT will hit the stage.

"I scoured B.C. for one of the best AC/DC tribute bands, and I discovered TNT," Wood said. "They are a rip-roaring band with five players that have over 160 years of music experience between them. They're going to light that stage up."

The AC/DC tribute band will be all ages as well, so kids are welcome to rock out.

To finish off the night, Saskatoon Tod will be playing a DJ set from 9 p.m. until midnight.

The music isn't the only thing from the 1970s. One of the big selling points for Wood is the fact that the food will also be 70s-themed ... including the prices.

"There won't be a meal for over $4.99," he said.

Some of the menu items include the Bee Gees Burger, Chili Hendrix, and Fleetwood Mac and Cheese.

"The person with the best 70s costume is going to win, a six pack of lift passes drom Mount Washington this season," he added. "And then they've got, this is really kind of cool t-shirt giveaway, with these amazing retro 1979 Ted's t-shirts, and they're going to give away 45 of those. to first 45 people that come to Ted's starting at 3 p.m."

"That 70's Rock genre is sort of my bread and butter," Wood said. "I'm excited to show off my records and have a really good time. I have my 70s mustache all trimmed up and in all of it's glory. It'll be a good time."

The mountain will also be open on Saturday, so people are invited to come up, ski and have a good start to the season.
