Even though Vancouver Island MusicFest can’t happen this summer, the organizing team still has some fantastic shirts to sell for MusicFest 2020, The Missing Year.

This year’s image was made by local artist Laura Jayne Furness, a certified ‘Art Specialist’ originally from Kelowna who attended Shawnigan Lake high school. This was where she decided to make teaching art her career of choice. She carried onto Camosun College where she graduated with a diploma from the visual arts program. Furness transferred into third year at The University of Victoria for art education, earning a bachelor of education.

From university, Furness married and started a family. Although she enjoys being a wife and mother, her love for art never wavered. She has been painting and drawing since she was young and has now sold hundreds of original works.

She puts great care, detail and a “piece of her heart” into each creation.

Since returning to Vancouver Island after being in Grande Prairie, Alta. for seven years, Furness has been inspired by the beauty of the Comox Valley — which is evident in her recent art works.

The MusicFest team was drawn to her work and asked if she would consider creating the image for the 2020 poster. Her answer was a resounding “yes” and work on refining the image began.

The result is a stunning image officially titled West Coast Wolf Howl.
