St. George’s United Church is pleased to announce another group for its Sunday Sessions, a new initiative to showcase and support the local musical community, while also supporting one of the church’s charitable partners.

The May 5 Sunday Session, from 4-5 p.m., will feature Michael Eddy & Friends, a seven-piece band fronted by two charismatic singers, horns and a solid rhythm section.

The band has put together their favourite Canadian songs by legends such as Leonard Cohen, Allister MacGillivray, Oscar Peterson and others.

Expect themes of longing, mercy and freedom from discrimination, in uplifting Celtic folk songs, ballads, blues and joyful gospel jazz.

The band includes many well-known performers from the Comox Valley music scene: Michael Eddy, Jacki Zbirun, Maureen O’Hearn, Don MacKay, Rob Peterson, Jeff Agopsowicz, and Dareios Katsanikakis.

Event admission is by donation, with 25 per cent of donations going to the Eureka Support Society, and 75 per cent to the artist.

St. George’s will provide refreshments, and an invitation to meet and mix with performers.

This program is intended as a way for St. George’s to affirm its support for and bless the Comox Valley arts community.
