St. George’s United Church is pleased to announce “Sunday Sessions,” a new initiative to showcase and support the local musical community, while also supporting one of the church’s charitable partners.

“The idea is to offer local musicians a free space to explore and perform their latest projects,” said Kelly Thomas, program co-ordinator and lead accompanist. “Event admission is by donation, with 25 per cent of the donations going to the Eureka Support Society, and 75 per cent to the artist.

The first afternoon in the Sunday Sessions line-up will be “Spirituals in Spring,” featuring Luke Blu Guthrie, on April 14, 4-5 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Luke is a local folk/blues musician who will explore the roots of modern r&b and hip hop music through a retrospective of African American spirituals. Accompanied by vintage instruments, Guthrie will lead listeners on a rhythmic journey designed to soothe the soul.

St. George’s will provide refreshments and an invitation to meet and mix with performers.

This program is intended as a way for St. George’s to affirm its support for and bless the Comox Valley Arts Community.
