Western Days this weekend

Western Days at the 19th annual Outdoor Recreation Show of the Courtenay and District Fish and Game Protective Association happens June 4 and 5.

The location is the CDFGPA's Comox Lake headquarters

starting at 9 each morning.

The cowboy action range will be open and you can visit Boomtown, the tiny frontier town that transports you back in time to Wild West shooting action. Haywagons will make the trip from the main grounds up to Boomtown, over to the Trap and Skeet Range and back again to the clubhouse.

Beware — you just might come upon a showdown in the street!

Trainers and training video’s will be available at Trap and Skeet and once you have participated in the safety training inside the clubhouse, you will be able to try your hand at shooting some clays.  Cost will be $2 for five shots, which will include clays and ammo.

We will have trainers and shotguns available for those who would like to try their hand. This is a great opportunity to see if you like the sport.

Live musical talent such as Voices Three, John Mundy, Todd Butler and Barry Polichek will be on stage to keep you entertained  while you enjoy the glacier view.  Learn all about geocaching and find some hidden caches on club property or cheer on the Dragon Boat racers.

Keep your fingers crossed for good weather and there may be helicopter rides on the Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The annual event is sponsored by Safeway, Comox Quality Foods and 97.3 the Eagle, and is a popular family outing. There will be exhibits to see such as the latest trucks and RVs and children’s and adult activities.

Admission and parking is free. We just ask for food bank donations. Activity and raffle tickets can be purchased at the club tent. ATMs will be on site in case you find that great deal you have been looking for.

Plenty of food including a pancake breakfast each morning, an afternoon beer garden, burgers and hot dogs, a tea room, and bake sale will keep your energy up.

Each year the association donates a framed wildlife print to a charitable or not for profit organization to raffle during the Outdoor Recreation show. This year the Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society will sell tickets on a bald eagle print, Wintering on the Fraser, by Myles Mathis and framed by Pete Savin.

Exhibit space is still available. Call Pete Savin at 250-338-8506.
