On this Remembrance Day, like all those that have come before it, we will honour the commitment and sacrifices of service men and women, past and present.

Whether it’s global peacekeeping efforts, serving on Canadian soil, or providing support right here in the Comox Valley, the common theme is a dedication to causes greater than oneself.

I also know that it’s members from across the military spectrum who are often the first to step up in a personal capacity volunteering with a variety of local causes for the betterment of others in our community, including active duty personnel, veterans, and cadets. We see you, and we appreciate you.

Looking for a tangible way to show your support for veterans? There are a couple of things we can do. First, participate in the annual Poppy Campaign. Your donations, large and small, directly support local veteran support services.

Second, attend a local Remembrance Day ceremony. In Courtenay, I hope to see you at Jubilee Square, next to the Sid Williams Theatre.
