The Comox Valley RCMP and the Bank of Canada are co-hosting a presentation on senior financial fraud and scam awareness at a free 鈥楥ourageous Conversations鈥� Comox Valley open house

As the holiday season approaches, financial scams and fraud become more prevalent. Seniors need to be particularly vigilant as they are often targeted because of their trusting nature.

Several esteemed guests will be on hand for this open house:

鈥� Cpl. Vinh NGO, federal policing prevention and engagement (FPPE) RCMP 鈥淓鈥� Division, will speak about fraud awareness for seniors.

The RCMP鈥檚 FPPE will introduce the concept of frauds committed by strangers, how fraudsters are reaching their victims, and the top frauds affecting seniors.

鈥� Farid Salji, currency analyst - western degion, Bank of Canada will discuss how the Bank of Canada will help you understand Canadian currency and what security features it holds, so you don鈥檛 get stuck with counterfeit banknotes.

鈥� Jess McPeek, RSW, leader - community health services, Island Health, will be presenting on the role and scope of social work within Community Health Services regarding frauds/scams, where capability/capacity may play a role.

The event takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Millenium Hall, Comox Valley Presbyterian Church (725 Aspen Rd, Comox).

Courageous Conversations is a collaboration between Classic Lifecare, Comox Valley Senior Support Society, Alongside Caregiver Consulting, and Keystone Eldercare Solutions to empower Comox Valley seniors and their caregivers with knowledge and resources available to them, through monthly free open houses.
