Pride Comox Valley organizing rally for trans youth at Harmston Park

In response to the national 1 Million March 4 Children, being held in communities across the country on Wednesday, Sept. 20, the Pride Society of the Comox Valley is hosting a rally for trans youth.

“No Space For Hate” will take place at noon at Harmston Park, in Courtenay.

The rally is described as “a peaceful rally to show our support for trans youth and their families, and for SOGI in schools.”

Organizers are encouraging particvipants to bring signs and messages of support.

“Wear your Pride colours and bring your friends,” said a poster sent in by Pride Society of the Comox Valley director, Marusha Taylor. “Say ‘no’ to hate and discrimination in our country.”

While Courtenay is not listed as one of the municipalities officially hosting a 1 Million March 4 Children march, anti SOGI events are planned in 99 cities across Canada, including 27 locations in B.C.

The mantra “advocating for the elimination of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) curriculum, pronouns, gender ideology and mixed bathrooms in schools.”

The Record reached out to School District 71 for comment on the 1 Million March 4 Children, but had not received a response as of publication of this article.
