Glittery gems on display at Courtenay Gem and Mineral Club's annual show

Minerals specimens, rough rock, polished art, jewellers, and artisans are all on deck for this year's Gem Show, put on by the Courtenay Gem and Mineral Club.

Minerals specimens, rough rock, polished art, jewellers, and artisans are all on deck for this year's Gem Show, put on by the Courtenay Gem and Mineral Club.

The show will be on April 5 and 6 at the Comox Valley Curling Rink, and promises to be another successful weekend for showcasing beautiful fossils and gems. The Comox Valley is home to many amazing fossils, and attendants can see a fossil prepping demonstration, among many others during the two-day event.

"Shop the over 100 tables of anything rock, fossil, gemstone related, let the kids play the Karnival Games or Spin and Win games for a chance to win sweet prizes," a release from the group says. "Stop for lunch at the CV Café, Larry would love to feed you."

The Courtenay club has been in the valley since 1965. A small group of dedicated rock hounds that meet once a month, have a weekly workshop where you can make your own jewelery, and weather permitting do group field trips. As part of the B.C. Lapidary Society, they are connected to clubs all over the province.

"Last year we had over 4,000 visitors over the weekend, let’s see if we can top that this year!"

The show will be held on April 5 and 6 from 9:30 until 4:30 on both days. The event will be at the Comox Valley Curling Rink.
