On Remembrance Day, we gather to honour the sacrifices of our brave servicemen and women, both past and present, who have selflessly defended our freedom and values. This year, I would also like to take a moment to reflect on the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, and the enduring horrors in Palestine and Israel, serving as a stark reminder of the need for peace, empathy, and diplomacy in our world.

As we remember the fallen heroes of wars past, our hearts extend to those currently living through the terror of conflict. Let this day inspire us to work tirelessly for a future where peace prevails, and where the sacrifices of our past are honoured by our collective dedication to a more harmonious world for all. Together, let us strive for a world where dialogue and understanding replace conflict, and where differences are embraced.

November 8 is Indigenous Remembrance Day. This day serves as a poignant reminder of our commitment to acknowledge and honour the enduring contributions and sacrifices of Indigenous peoples. It is a day to reflect on the unique experiences and histories of Indigenous veterans. By commemorating this day, we not only pay tribute to their service, but also pledge to work towards a future where Indigenous rights, culture and heritage are respected and celebrated and we will accomplish this through truth and reconciliation.
