Stepping Stones Recovery House for Women, in Courtenay, is taking to the links for a fundraising campaign.

Stepping Stones has always struggled to find funding.

“Financial challenges are part of running a non-profit,” said acting executive director, Tammy Gough. “But we’ve been in the Comox Valley for over 15 years and those challenges haven’t stopped us before and we don’t intend for them to stop us now.”

That’s where the inaugural Stepping Stones Scramble Golf Tournament at Glacier Greens comes in. Golfers will tee off in a shotgun start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24 at Glacier Greens Golf Course in Comox with proceeds benefiting the eight-bed residential home. Starting at 11:30 a.m. participants can try their skills in the hole-in-1 and the putting contest. In addition to a fun day of golf with great prizes, registration includes an apres golf barbecue and a chance to bid on silent auction items.

Resources for women in recovery are limited, so maintaining the services that currently exist is essential.

“The fundraising is so needed,” said Gough. “We’re also excited to be able to meet folks in our community who might not know about us, we want to share our story. It’s one that affects so many women and so many families and so many communities. It’s not an easy story but we want people to know, if we work together, it can have a good ending. It really can.”
