Courtenay in June filled with events, programs

Courtenay Recreation is offering June events and programs.

Little June Bugs is a fun way to kick off summer with your little one. This program for 1½ - 3 years with parent participation and starts Thursday June 9 in the morning and runs for 3 Thursdays.

 

Home Sense & Safety is a new program for 9-12 years to help create a safe environment when a child is home alone. Learn about snack prep, safety, dealing with strangers, making emergency calls and more. Class is Saturday June 11 from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.

 

Mark the Father’s Day Kite Fly on your calendar this month! This family event is at Goose Spit on Sunday, June 19 and features prizes and fun for young and old! Registration is at noon and the Kite Fly is until 2:30 p.m.

 

New programs for adults are starting this month.

 

Power of Change takes us through the process of personal change, growth and abundance using  self-development, psycho-education and mind mastery techniques. Join Heron Free, M.Ed., RCC , for this exciting new program starting Thursday, June 23 in the evening and running for six weeks.

 

Learning How to Say What You Really Mean introduces basic concepts and principles of effective communication through role play, and other techniques. Course starts Wednesday, June 15 in the evening and runs for six weeks.

 

Do you have experience making simple sewing patterns but want to take your creativity up a notch? Join us for Pattern Making for Fun and Fashion. Learn how to be creative with patterns, how to fit yourself and how to create different patterns from a drawing. This course runs Saturday, June 25.

 

Navigating the System is a course for family caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. The formal health care system can be overwhelming to navigate. This course provides info on how the system works and will empower caregivers. The instructor is Jane Hope of Alzheimer Society of BC. Join us Wednesday, June 29 in the evening for this free program. Please phone us to pre-register.
