Comox Valley Regional District begins parks and trails strategic plan

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) has started a Regional Parks and Trails Strategic Plan process to guide the future of regional parks and trails over the next 20 years and beyond. The strategic plan will help fill parks service gaps, protect valued areas, and complement the existing community and provincial parks networks as the region grows.

The planning process follows from establishment of a Comox Valley Regional Parks and Trails Service in 2022. Electoral Area A director and regional parks and trails committee chair, Daniel Arbour, explains the process.

“Working with the community to create a strategic plan is an important next step where we will create a vision, goals, recommendations, and actions to guide the new service,” he said. “Conserving regionally-significant natural areas; preserving places of cultural heritage; and linking our communities with trails and pathways will require strong regional collaboration. Our committee is excited to get to work on this with community partners across the Comox Valley.”

The CVRD is engaging with K’ómoks First Nation and later this fall will begin meeting with member municipalities and local interest groups to gather and analyze initial information for the planning process. A broad public process is planned to begin early 2024 to discuss emerging directions and identify priorities for future regional parks and trails.
