In solidarity with Consent Awareness Week, the Comox Valley Art Gallery is presenting a week-long curated video program and hosting a community conversation Friday at 7 p.m.

The Friday evening conversation will address consent culture. Artists from the “Consent” video program will be present, and everyone is welcome to attend this free event.

The “Consent” video reel is now running on the large screen in the CVAG Window Gallery and is viewable 24/7 from the CVAG plaza until Sept. 26.

The video reel features work created by four local artists: Naia Lisch, Griffin Halpin, Taylor Robinson and Spencer Sheehan Kalina.

Consent Awareness Week “aims to normalize collective skill-building to move towards a consent culture, which includes healthy sexual communication, understanding, and naming boundaries, safer partying and sex practices, capacity for rejection and engaging as active bystanders when we witness harm,” says Sarah Scanlon, manager of sexual violence response in the Office of Human Rights and Conflict Management at Laurier.

The CVAG website describes the projects comprising the video program as “fragments of what it means to give, receive, acknowledge and examine consent through various modes and mediums.”
