Father Charles devoted his life to protecting and preserving natural habitats and has inspired generations of volunteers to work together to protect and preserve forests and rivers. In his will, he donated his property to the Comox Valley Regional District to establish both a park and a hermitage. Before Fr. Charles passed away he had a covenant placed on the land to protect it from development. Photo submitted

The Brandt Oyster River Hermitage Society will hold its annual general meeting on Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.

Attendees will gather at Fr. Charles’s memorial site near by his house, for a business meeting with guest speaker Maureen Ritter, chairperson of Oyster River Enhancement Society.

Lunch will be provided.

Venue: The Brandt Hermitage 2364 Catherwood Road, Black Creek.

The newly formed Brandt Oyster River Hermitage Society is devoted to promoting the legacy of contemplative ecologist and hermit-priest Charles Brandt, who was a Comox Valley resident for over six decades.

The organization would like to invite the general public and the media to come and see the hermitage property, which is soon to be a CVRD-owned public park in partnership with the society, which will conduct the public programming and host a contemplative in-residence.
