A still from Bon Victoriage! episode one – We came here with nothing.

A second season of the new video podcast that explores the known, and unknown of Victoria by a pedicab driver and his passengers will see the light of day.

“I'm starting to get super excited about all the cool stories we'll get to tell,” journalist Johnny Brenneman said after learning he'd be funded for more of Bon Victoriage.

The first eight-episode season offers panoramic views of Victoria, narrated by an eclectic mix of locals as they travel around the city on a pedicab, rediscovering the place they call home alongside Brenneman. Guests range from folks popular in the drag scene to knowledgeable historians and all things between.

Several public screening events mean Brenneman is garnering copious amounts of public feedback – primarily positive.

“So far we've done three episodes, and there is nothing like sitting in a room and watching a program you've invested so much time and energy into in the presence of friends and strangers, and hearing their reactions live,” Brenneman said.

He’s paying particular attention to what makes people laugh, gasp, clap, or even just go completely still as he plans out season two.

“I'm enjoying the online feedback as well, which has been almost entirely positive, but screenings have a visceral quality that is hard or impossible to replicate in a digital context.”

Second-season storytelling will shift to a more policy-focused presentation, targeting a “rounder picture of Victoria as a city still in search of itself, in an era when the world is changing very, very fast,” Brenneman said.

Funded by a Telus Storyhive grant, Bon Victoriage is available on Telus Optik TV, Stream+ and Storyhive’s YouTube channel.
