Thanks to the City of Victoria rolling back the patio rent fees to 2023/24 levels, you'll continue seeing most of the patios you know and love.
Last month, Victoria City Council unanimously voted to put a hold on the anticipated increase to the fees until 2027, taking into account that the expected bounce back of revenues since the pandemic hasn鈥檛 quite materialized.
So, considering the nearly 100 patios in the program, you can check out some of the favourites and enjoy a locally brewed beer, knowing that you鈥檙e making a difference to the local economy.
Speaking of favourites, some definitely stand out based on their views, venues and tap lists, and while not all of these are included in the patio rent program, they鈥檙e worth the trip.
As for views, how can you not include down on the end of Swift Street? Since the changeover from Canoe Brewpub, this has continued to be a perfect spot to swing by, enjoy a pint, throw some beanbags and soak in the sun.
A short trip south on the David Foster Harbour Pathway brings you to Market Square, home to two amazing patios: one nicely sheltered and one in the great wide open space.
s patio is nestled up on the second interior level, and their tap list is always one of the best in the city. In addition, the menu has great options at a variety of price points and fares.
If you鈥檙e seeking more sun, head down to the lower level and take in the sunny, wind-sheltered patio at . This always-fantastic space has an amazing perk as well: you can bring your own food or order from somewhere nearby for delivery, so you don鈥檛 even have to get up.
If you鈥檙e looking for something quaint but surrounded by the energy of Government Street, is just a little bit further south, and, combined with next door, has one of the most comprehensive tap lists in the city. Weekends are great here as the market in Bastion Square picks up, allowing you to soak in all the liveliness while slowing things down yourself.
Whatever patio your shadow follows you to, there are great local options to enjoy and support as summer peeks out from behind those clouds.
