Mark Isfeld Ice senior football player Brodie Squire won Defensive Player accolades at the prestigious BC Football Senior Bowl, played March 26 at Empire Stadium in Vancouver.

From across the province, only 100 of the most talented players were invited to attend the 2011 Senior Bowl Training Camp that culminated in the "All Star" East vs. West Bowl Game. Squire was the only player from the North Island to receive an invitation.

The week-long camp, conducted at the B.C. Lions' training facilities in Vancouver during spring break, featured notable coaches from across the province and included a day with Lions' personnel and coaching staff putting players through drills and a full dress East vs. West scrimmage.

Despite breaking a finger on the first day of camp, Squire compiled impressive stats during the scrimmage game, with two quarterback sacks, three tackles for losses and a forced fumble where he recovered the ball and ran for a defensive touchdown. His aggressive display of skill, determination and leadership earned him selection as the West Division defensive line captain.

In Saturday's Bowl Game, Squire's squad post a 14-0 halftime lead, largely due to the stellar play of the West鈥檚 "all-Island" defensive line. Squire recorded a first quarter sack and two tackles for lost yardage, helping to consistently pin the opposition deep in their own end.

The final score was an entertaining 21-14 victory for the West. Squire finished with three QB sacks and five tackles, with three for lost yardage.

Recognizing Squire鈥檚 hard work, talent, and determination to win, Football BC Senior Bowl head coach Dino Geremia awarded Brodie MVP honours for defensive line play for the entire week.
