Comox Valley United men鈥檚 team hosted a five-team preseason soccer tourney on the weekend of Aug. 21 and 22.
The locals opened play at the Vanier turf Saturday morning with a 5-1 win over Powell River. Vic West beat Nanaimo 2-1, Campbell River blanked Powell River 3-0 and Comox Valley finished out the day with a 2-1 win over Nanaimo.
On Sunday, Vic West beat the locals 2-1, giving them the tourney win with an unbeaten record in three games. Comox Valley rebounded though for a 2-0 win over Campbell River to finish play. Comox Valley United鈥檚 Nick Marinus won the Golden Boot by notching five goals during the tournament.
鈥淥verall, it was a great tune-up tournament for Comox as we got to have players try different positions, work on fitness and get into a game environment. This was also our first game under our new head coach Adam Mooi,鈥� said Rob Caya, Comox Valley United鈥檚 men鈥檚 manager.

The team will open the season with three home games, first hosting Lakehill FC at Vanier on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. The full schedule is online at Vancouver Island Soccer League (visl.org).
