LETTER - Ways to reduce our carbon footprint without taxing us to death

web1_231123-chc-ordynec-letter-housing_1

Dear editor,

The carbon emission tax has come under fire just as we hard-pressed citizens look at our mounting cost of living.

So let’s quit the carbon tax and take real action.

If both the federal and provincial governments really wanted to help the world why not do the big thing and simply ban all coal exports from Canada including any shipments sent here from the U.S.A. for export.

There must be a huge carbon credit available from that one act, so stop taxing us individuals unfairly.

In addition, instead of pushing us all to drive electric cars, with their costly charging infrastructure, why not first ban the future sale of all vehicles with engines greater than 2.5 litres and bring all vehicles under the same emissions standards?

(Modern small three- and four-cylinder engined vehicles have very low emissions)

Lots of carbon reductions in these measures. Does the government have the courage to act?

Mal Walsh,

Comox
