LETTER - There must be a better option for LUSH than a residential building

web1_letter-iss-240419-t_1

Dear editor,

Isn’t there a housing crisis?

The need for housing across our community is a hot topic in both the media and in city council chambers. The Record reports (April 24) that “LUSH (Valley Food Action Society) currently has a permit variance into the City of Courtenay”, requesting to take over a three-bedroom, two-bathroom family living space for commercial office use.

With residential property at a premium and an abundance of vacant commercial space on the market, it is hopeful that the City of Courtenay will decline this application.

While LUSH offers options to meet a community need towards food security, let it not be at the expense of residential housing needs.

Perhaps it is time to share the bounty of LUSH with other available commercial office space rather than removing prime residential housing from an already shallow pool.

Ann Greene,

Courtenay
