LETTER - Supporting homeless by sacrificing jobs seems counter-productive

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

Re: Job loss for Courtenay’s Super 8 employees (June 14 Record)

If I am reading this article correctly it would appear that our local government has prioritized the homeless with the purchase of the Super 8 while at the same time sacrificing those previously employed there.

It boggles the mind to think any employee having done their job is told that perhaps they might remain employed if they wish to look after the homeless? Of course, even that avenue appears to be dependent on submitting a resume, undergoing an interview, and demonstrating their ability to interact with the homeless.

Or perhaps having lost a job, they can join the ranks of the homeless and be housed in their former workplace?

Jeannette Paterson,

Courtenay
