Dear editor,
Re: New bridge for area.
I think that the new bridge should be regional, because it will benefit most of the people living in this area.
It should go from the Royston-Cumberland Road to Comox. There are already traffic lights where the Old Island Highway meets this road.
It could go on either side of the former St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The road on both sides of the hospital building should be used. One could be one-way going onto the bridge and the other a one-way coming off the bridge.
These roads would only need to be made one-way from Comox Avenue to the bridge.
The costs would be shared by the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Regional District and probably help from both the provincial and federal governments.
This would keep the traffic which does not wish to be in downtown Courtenay away, which eases up the traffic in that area for those who need to be there. A lot of people consider that the area of the 17th Street Bridge is part of downtown Courtenay today.
