re: Fletcher鈥檚 opinion piece on proportional representation.
Methinks they (the Liberal party) protest too much! The only 鈥渂ack room鈥� deal here is the current voting system (first-past-the-post) which guarantees that a minority government can be voted in with 38- 40 per cent of the popular vote and declare themselves the majority, leaving the 60 per cent who did not vote for them unrepresented.
A referendum is public consultation of the highest order. We get to choose, not have the 鈥渃hoice鈥� made for us by a system deliberately skewed in favour of the ruling party. Look out BC Liberals, your days may be numbered.
